TAMAN NEGARA/NATIONAL PARK

Taman Negara established in 1939 and covering three Peninsular States of Pahang, Kelantan and Terengganu, is Malaysia's premier park and the largest in the country. It covers a total area of about 4,343 sq. km. of primary tropical rainforest estimated to be more than 130 million years old. The park was formerly known as King George V National Park to commemorate the silver jubilee of the British monarch but after Independence in 1957, the name was changed to Taman Negara. Taman Negara Pahang, which forms the largest part of the park, covers an area of 2,477 sq. km (57%), followed by Taman Negara Kelantan with 1,013 sq. km (24%) and Taman Negara Terengganu with 853 sq. km (19%).

The Park is hereby dedicated, set aside and reserved in perpetuity in trust for the purpose of the propagation, protection and preservation of the indigenous flora and fauna of Malaysia, and the preservation of objects and places of aesthetic, historical of scientific interest'

Taman Negara Kuala Koh - Is about 290 km from Kuala Lumpur and 185 km from Kota Bharu. The journey from Gua Musang of 90KM takes about 1 ½ hours. The park entrance is at Aring Junction on the Gua Musang to Kota Bharu road. From here, the journey is 45 km with paved road. The road passes through Felda oil palm estates.

Getting There: Kuala Lumpur - Gua Musang By Bus, from KL's Putra bus station, board a bus heading north to Kota Bharu via the inland road, disembarking at Gua Musang. This route will take you through several towns including Raub in Pahang, before stopping in Gua Musang. Approximately 5 hour’s journey. From the town of Gua Musang in southern Kelantan, visitors can arrange for transportation to Kuala Koh, which is located 90km (1 1/2 hours) away via the Gua Musang - Kuala Krai highway. By Train, from KL Central Railway Stations, disembarking at Gua Musang Railway station.

Kota Bharu - Kuala Koh

Self drive, from Kota Bharu, drive to Southern to Kota Bharu- Kuala Krai route, then to Kuala Krai-Gua Musang route. Take the Simpang Aring Juntion in the middle of Kuala Krai-Gua Musang route to Kuala Koh. Follow the sign board avilable thru the journey.

By Bus, from Kota Bharu Transnational Intercity Bus Station, board a bus headed south to Gua Musang. Asked the bus driver to disembarking you at Simpang Aring. Take a shutter to Kuala Koh (book in advance).

By Train, from Kota Bharu, take a public transport to Wakaf Baharu Railway Station, board the jungle train to Gua Musang Railway Station. Book a pick up in advance for the shutter trip to Kuala Koh.

an be done here. Jungle trails are limited but very challenging as it is still remain narrow. Some short walk you can do by your self but the longer ones, guide are required and compulsory. Some guided tours are offers for minimum of 2 persons at a reasonable price. Trekking with will be fun and a new experience when you come with guide as they know a lot about jungle and willing to share with you. Kuala Koh boasts pleasant natural settings and lush rainforest greenery. At the same time, it's equipped with facilities that make your visit comfortable.

Jungle Trekking: A number of interpretive trails are available around Kuala Koh. Among them is the ‘ficus trail’ located across the river. Visitors need to cross a river to get to the trail. Due to the rugged and hilly nature of the trail, only those who are really fit are advised to use the trail. There are also other trails for other visitors who wish to enjoy the natural beauty of Kuala Koh.
